Last week, Marc and I attended our first Yelp Event at the WaveHouse in Pacific Beach. We didn't know these events existed until I signed up for a Yelp account last December. The event was held during a weekday so I was hesitant to go (we're old, we don't go out during the workdays). Before RSVP'ing, I waited a few weeks to see if it would be a big deal.
Just as I thought, there were hundreds of comments on the Yelp Event board so I decided to sign up.
WaveHouse is located in Belmont Park on the Mission Beach boardwalk with three restaurants, multiple bars and an outdoor wave machine developed by Tom Lochtefled. This is actually the first time we've ever been to the WaveHouse and we've been living in San Diego for like ten years. The site opened in 2005 so we're only off by five years.
Here's a few photos from the event.
The wait for the snack size bites were not as bad as we thought. That is, before we got in line for the Torpasta by Devine Pastabilities. Basically, it's pasta wedged inside a toasted garlic roll. There were four sandwiches offered: Spaghetti and Meatballs, Veggieball, FAB (Fettuccine Alfredo and Broccoli) and Pesto.
Of all of the food items offered, the torpasta ruled. They were yummy, but I'm not sure if it was worth the wait in the frigid, windy cold. It was like 48-50 something degrees outside.
*Note: 50 degrees and below is freakin' cold for San Diegans.
Another interesting food item offered by one of the food sponsors was the beer cupcakes from PubCakes. I was pleasantly surprised how moist these little darlings were. I wish I had another but it was getting too cold so we had to leave.
Lastly, you can't leave an event without yelp swag. Shown below: Reusable grocery bag, yelp pen, Yelp/Chapstick, beverage holder, Duece Brand watch, "You've been yelped!" card, yelp wrist sweatband, yelp buttons, nail filer, and a yelp bottle opener (my fave!). Not shown: Metromint Water.
Afterthoughts: We had fun though I wish it was scheduled during the weekend because there was no way in hell that I would have lasted the whole night knowing I woke up at 6am that morning to go to work. The 20' somethings were in the house and I felt like an old fart the whole time. Blah! Marc liked it and wants to go again so I guess I need to dress the part next time or bring a sh*tload of people our age. Remember, 30s are the new 20s. More refined (meaning more $$) and less annoying. Ha! I kid. I kid.
